Part I - The Beginning In their junior year of the high school Ömer Kehri started to make covers (mostly Mercyful Fate and King Diamond) on his own. They seemed just perfect, but lacked quality vocals. It all started on 22.03.2002, when he sent his cover of 'A Dream Of Wolves In The Snow' (Cradle Of Filth) to Veli Namık. Actually Veli liked the song very much, but there were no vocals except the intro. Being the competitive man he is, Veli thought that he could do vocals fitting to the song. He started to record them right away and sent them to Ömer thru ICQ. THe mixing took just a few minutes and as the results seemed promising, the two thought of founding a band. Both had the same reputation in the school: Insane. They even had the same nicknames. So it was not unexpected when Ömer came up with the name 'Mentally ill'. Next day in the school they reached a new level of popularity with their recording. Motivated by the positive feedback of their classmates, they decided to continue with their project. Part II When Alican first listened to 'A Dream Of Wolves In The Snow' cover, he wondered if everything was played by Ömer. By that time Alican had a keyboard, but he was not using it for anything. Stunned by the prospect of the band, he offered to play the keys for Mentally ill. The two accepted it without consideration, as they were very eager to welcome a new member to the family. They moved on to make more covers and with every song they improved themselves both musically and qualitywise. With the rising quality they changed their name to 'Metally ill'. to be continued... |
